Harlan Literary Society : ウィキペディア英語版 | Harlan Literary Society
The Harlan Literary Society was founded in 1889 at the (Central Collegiate Institute ) (CCI) by Professor George C. Millar and George H. Burr. The establishment of the society initiated a rivalry with the Franklin Literary Society. Both societies engaged in literary or oratory competitions at CCI. The Institute was renamed Hendrix College on June 10, 1889 and was relocated the next year to Conway, Arkansas. The Society survived the move and was given a large hall in the new Main facility. The Harlan and Franklin societies were the preeminent club at Hendrix College. In the 1920s all male students were either "a Harlan or Franklin."〔 The two societies debated weekly on various topics. ==References==
